We in America pride ourselves on our freedom to express our views on things we believe. We in America also pride ourselves on our “Right to Bear Arms”. Those two rights do not give us the right to express ourselves by killing one another as a form of free speech. A big thing.

I am reminded that much of the reason for the hatred and violence in America is a response to the hate speech that Mr. Kirk was well known to expound. A small thing.

My fondest hope is that all people will try to see past their differences, work together and create a world where every single grandchild will have wonders to see in their lives. A big thing.

I have two Grandkids who are both so wonderful that they make me happy just thinking about what wonders they will have all the days of their lives. A small thing.

I recognize that so many people will never have the opportunity to know gratitude. Their lives are simply to horrible to allow room for gratitude. Worse even than that, I know there are people living lives they should be so grateful for who are not. They want more. A big thing.

I come home from my 4.2 mile walk and I am grateful. I have listened to an audiobook that had me both laughing and crying. I am grateful, but best of all I recognize my own gratitude. I am so lucky. A small thing.

I am saddened by how poorly women are being treated worldwide and in particular here in America. Men in particular seem to be treating women with less respect and more disdain than I ever remember even as a boy. A big thing.

I am delighted by how well my beautiful granddaughter is doing at school and how bright her future looks. A small thing.

I am saddened by the fact that the color of a human’s skin can result in so much misunderstanding, suffering and blatant cruelty. A big thing.

I am delighted by all the vibrant colors outdoors during the Spring and Summer. A small thing.

I am saddened by all the suffering of people in this world particularly the children. A big thing.

It occurs to me that we do not listen to and talk to each other nearly enough about anything small or large that matters to us.
So, I’ll start. I really want to keep my weight down to around 155 pounds. I feel better healthier at that weight. A small thing.

I want people old and young to think about how hating one another for any reason has been so destructive for the world and for Americans in particular. Wouldn’t all of us prefer to treat folks the way we would like to be treated? Seen that before haven’t you! Worth a try?

Just want to remind everyone that today is the day we honor the women who have one of the most difficult and challenging jobs on the planet: Motherhood. Thank goodness women are willing to do the job. I don’t think many men could handle it. Happy Mother’s Day!

Very dear friends of mine, Rev. Peter Elvin and his lovely wife Diana Elvin, were exercising their First Amendment right to freedom of speech recently. I want to publicly express how proud I am of them and their courage of conviction. I hope next time I will have the opportunity to stand with them.
