Hmm, 16mln, I doubt it, but the number is less important. Surely however many they are, they must be all correct. Just like the millions who voted for Trump, their worldview is correct, of course too.

That's where we disagree. The regimes were unredeemable-- oppressive, dehumanizing, incompetent, and isolating.

Nice! AFAIK, this is Ohrid, Yugoslav Macedonia-- school trip. Some classmates smuggled feta cheese in their luggage to sell for Yugoslav dinars so they could buy some decent trendy clothes, which Yugoslav stores had way more of compared to Bulgaria.

Same here. It's more than semantics too, it strikes me as ontological aggression-- questioning the basis of existence of states-- and it is not a road we want to go down in general just because of Israel's behaviour.

I agree with all three points, even though at the same time I think the deterioration is significant and on some dimensions like the rule of law, things are in competitive authoritarianism territory (e.g. Comey and Letitia James prosecutions)

Indeed. Russia is the worst case scenario. The other work cited in the brief is on Venezuela, Hungary, and Turkey, which is unfortunately on the nose too.
