Father, grandfather, still working, still attempting to play guitar, still ageing disgracefully. They say you become more right wing as you age. They are quite wrong.

Oops that’s the weigelia! Note to self: wear glasses when posting! Here it is:

I get all the ‘Command Economy’ and authoritarian stuff, but if they could do this with normal clay tile replacements, I would transform the roof on my 200 y/o house. We need to save the planet NOW and, maybe later but still VITALLY important, democracy.

Have you been on the pop at cricket today? If not, please explain. Sent from an admirer!

You really are quite good at this. Wolves are some of the most special animals. I have a branch descendent sitting with me right now!

Hope.

Surely they would be in Singaporean not UK embassies?

I can think of one mayor - no, make that two now! - who definitely should not be MPs though!
May 13, 2025 at 11:13 AM
Yep. It all got kicked off with PFI IMO (and you’re right, I’m no expert but I do think I innately understand what is right (doing things for the people) and what is wrong (for the money). Haughty, eh?!? I’d be crucified on the hell site (in fact I was, but that’s another story!).
May 13, 2025 at 11:11 AM
Didn’t understand that. But don’t despair yet - I think there are many, many more PLU than we might imagine. I look to places like Australia, Poland for inspiration: they can be beaten, or at least put back in their boxes (imperfect analogies, I know!).

Agree on all counts. Imagine how different things might have been if Burnham had beaten Corbyn in the leadership election…
May 13, 2025 at 10:24 AM
Who would you choose to lead the recovery? I had hopes for Andy Burnham, but he’s (probably sensibly) keeping his nose out of things for now. Labour needs to start listening to people like you and me rather than aping the Tories and Reform.
May 13, 2025 at 10:15 AM
TBH I voted tactically to ensure we got rid of the Tories as my absolute top priority. Glad to say that objective achieved. It’s all been downhill from there, and yes, @EuropeanPowell’s worst fears are coming home. I want us to own our country not foreign asset-strippers!
May 13, 2025 at 10:11 AM
Agree. I’m so disappointed. And depressed about the future of our country. I feel like giving him a proper shake to reawaken his previous, much better, self.
May 13, 2025 at 9:37 AM
You are very right! The same kind of depressing analysis applies across most areas of British life. I had hoped that Labour would be bold when elected. Instead, they have just been more of the same. We need radical, people- focused change now. Who’s going to lead it though? I’m too old!

While we’re on prog and Genesis, check out the simply fabulous keyboard work of Tony Banks and drumming of Phil Collins in Cinema Show. Skip the singing at the start if it’s not to your taste. A crescendo of joy to celebrate your birthday!
