yes. as I expected. some management consultant came in, did some measurements, set some standards, and Woolworth management took the standards literally.

it kinda sorta works at the aggregate level, but fails at an individual level.

thoughts:
it's not just software engineering, productivity metrics are powerful, but can be misused, no matter what the industry. productivity metrics should be used at the team level, and we should look for trends, not absolutes.
