Years ago I was getting rid of some old iPods and came across a local nursing home that would take them and load them with familiar music for the dementia patients as it helped to calm them and make them feel safe. I thought that was such a lovely idea and great use for basically obsolete tech.

Years ago in Australia there was an ad campaign for whooping cough jabs and it was literally a baby with whooping cough coughing and crying and distressed for like a minute of TV while the voiceover talked about what the baby was experiencing. It was so uncomfortable and sad, but so effective.

I’m Australian. I had major surgery late last year and then 5 weeks of radiation therapy afterwards. It didn’t cost me a cent. I pay a Medicare levy of about $AUD1400 a year in my taxes. It’s astounding to me that anyone would think $18000 a year “plus a few thousand dollars” is a good deal.

I’d ring myself and pretend I was calling someone and talk about how my commute is really annoying because someone is playing videos and make passive aggressive comments about how you can buy earbuds in Kmart for ten bucks. And then I’d laugh and say “I know right? Always those people!”

I’m a white (non American) person over 50 and I thought it was cool, though admittedly I didn’t quite get it all. It was definitely good art even if it went over my head a bit!
