Briefly educating yourself means you don't look at the news and scroll incessantly while arguing with assholes online. I like to look at the headlines on news websites or get information from one source and then put down the phone.

Productive things you can do: help a neighbor with a chore, clean something, bake bread, make art, fix that thing you've been meaning to, start a garden, have a friend over for dinner, spend time with your dad, write that book, call your aunt... the possibilities are endless.

I recommend doing this cycle daily, because wallowing for an entire day is exhausting. You can do this cycle more than once a day.

The key is to wallow in despair for a brief period, educate yourself briefly about any updates on the situation, and then do something productive that makes somebody's life better. Especially your own.
