I came across this timeline on another social media site and thought it was worth sharing here. I didn’t write it myself, but I found it to be a well-organized summary of recent events, and it captures the growing frustration and concern many Canadians are feeling. Warning, super long thread! 1/34

"It’s extremely alarming that grants that have been vetted by the scientific community and deemed important and impactful to understand the world are now being cancelled because of political ideology”
"In an unprecedented move, the US National Institutes of Health (NIH) has begun mass terminations of research grants that fund active scientific projects because they no longer meet 'agency priorities'"

Exclusive: NIH to terminate hundreds of active research grants
Studies that touch on LGBT+ health, gender identity and DEI in the biomedical workforce could be terminated, according to documents obtained by Nature.

Depressing for a lot of reasons, but I'm finding some amusement in trying to backwards-engineer their search terms based on what's included that is hilariously not "Woke DEI." So far:
- chemistry grants presumably tagged because of cis/trans isomers
- microbiome grants that include the word colonize
Cruz-Led Investigation Uncovers $2 Billion in Woke DEI Grants at NSF, Releases Full Database

How Capping NIH Indirect Costs at 15% Hurts Science, Jobs, and Public Health
1/ The new cap to indirect costs at 15% on NIH grants may sound like a way to cut wasteful spending. In reality, it would devastate biomedical research, slow medical breakthroughs, and cost jobs.
