I mean it’s been maybe a year for me, but at the time I watched and rewatched (as people like us do), and I mean it’s just obvious. The woodcutter can’t lie, he says that. And the stories that fit together without contradictions are his and the dead man’s.

The detail that nobody seems to ever comment upon is how different the last battle (in the woodcutter’s telling) is from the others. They’re not trying to win.

It feels almost transparently obvious to me that the woodcutter is responsible. I just assumed that was canon. But nobody on the internet seems to think that?
