It's heartbreaking the Guardian (the only UK newspaper that is capable of real journalism) is so virulently anti-trans. What distinguishes UK transphobia is that it's thriving in "progressive" spaces. That's the influence of a certain children's books author that was (is?) prominent in these spaces

People change. But if I was a bigoted ass a mere four years ago and I was trying to be better, I would be a lot more humble and introspective. He doesn't seem either of those things.

Isaac Butler suggested to read Tony Kushner's On Pretentiousness alongside this essay, and that's a mighty good idea.

In 2015 James Graham wrote a play called The Vote, set at a polling station the evening of an election. It played at the Donmar London, super short run and starry cast, Judy Dench among them. Then the night of the UK election, May 7th, it was broadcast live on tv, the exact time the play was set.

There is a version of this where they provide plenty of gender neutral facilities and have a tiny closet for what I call now terf toilets. Hope this is the way it goes down in most places. I, a cis woman, don't feel safe in the terf toilets any more.

That's a great interview but there is a typo: the year they both starred in off broadway musicals and became friends is 2007, not 2017.
