I have ended up with a Kindle Scribe.
I like it as far better reading experience than PDFs on the tablet.
Still not quite as good as paper, yet acceptable.

I wish I could just get sworn in on one of my own law school course outlines. They were all color-coded, written on lined paper with a giant pack of markers, fastened into binders … I’m not going to lie, they were pretty fabulous.
