I’m teaching English composition at an R1 for the very first time, and I’ve been pretty impressed with how much my students do want to understand and improve. I was expecting way less effort based on what I’ve seen online. Could be that those low expectations skew it, but I’ve loved their work.

I mean I’ve had to wait over 6 months to see relatively basic specialists like allergists here even with decent insurance. I’m impressed she works somewhere with a wait time worth celebrating.

Astronomical? I’m a freelancer and a grad student and paid more taxes on what I made than Tesla as an entire organization. Don’t buy their propaganda. They’re cheating all of us.

They used to tell us that the really loving shepherds would break the legs of lambs that wandered off too much and then carry them around to generate love and dependence because they cared so much! Can’t imagine someone without a vet on speed dial doing that to sheep they intended to keep alive??

Exactly. You earn your way into a person’s world by being normal and cool enough through small talk. I kind of think anyone who “hates small talk” just doesn’t care enough about other people to be interested in their day to day.

I’ve read similar things about “zombie friendships” that helped me disentangle from a Lot of internet presences I didn’t need anymore. It’s wild that we let ourselves be caught up in it.
