I know what WAR is. WAR does not take into effect things that are intangible, like a pitcher having confidence to throw a breaking ball in the dirt with a runner on 3rd. He had zero passed balls in the regular season.

Cal had ZERO passed balls in the entire regular season. Piazza usually couldn't go a week without a PB. Catcher is not just about offense - being able to throw a 2-strike breaking ball with a runner on 3rd is huge to a pitcher.

Huge mistake on many levels. Crappy weather for fans and players, a two months break mid-season to lose the interest of fans on middling-to-poor teams, and direct competition with the NFL, NHL and NBA, just to name a few.
