I made this map based on what I could find of each states vaccine requirements, legend is in the alt text
Map of states color coded. Blue: ID, MT, WY, ND, NE, IA, WI, MO, KY, LA, GA, FL, VA, MD, NJ, NH Light blue: OR, CO, TX, AR, SC, VT Green: MS, MI Yellow: WA Orange: AK, HI, KS, OK, IL, NC, DC, DE, PA Red: CA, WV, NY, CT, ME Grey: NV, UT, AZ, NM, SD, MN, IL, OH, TN, AL, MA Legend Blue: Exemption form does not require any proof or explaination, just a signature saying you have a religious or in some cases any objection Light blue: As above but requires the review of online or printed educational material Green: Requires in person education from health dept Yellow: Requires physician sign off that they have educated you, the physician can probably refuse this Orange: Requires you explain your beliefs (can probably be denied if not truly religious) and/or requires you legally attest to having more specific religious beliefs Red: Exemptions only granted based on medical determination of contraindication (every state has this exemption, though some states can ovverrule a doctor's determination) Grey: Exemption policy unclear, link to form broken, form not publicly posted online, or dependent on local jurisdiction. Some of these grey states appeared to be strict and others lax, this does not say anything about how strict the policy is Note that am am unable to verify whether or not schools/health depts in some of the more lax (bluish) states are allowed to reject a properly filled out exemption, thought I think most don't, and some of the orange states may in practice allow any exemption filed, this map is only based on what the state form requires This map may contain errors, be sure to verify this info before basing major decisions (eg about legal matters or relocation) on it

Vaccine rollout was in 2021, starting in winter and by spring or summer the vax was available to most people. Problem is covid keeps mutating, also not everyone took the vaccine

A new AAP recommendation that recommends covid vax for everyone 6 months plus but with boosters as shared clinical decision making for ages 2-17 years without preexisting conditions, and the latest federal recommendations that covid vaccine is not recommended for anyone pregnant or under 65 without preexisting conditions, shared clinical decision making for under 18 with preexisting conditions, and recommended for 6 months plus with immunocompromise, 18 years plus with preexisting condition, or 65 plus regardless
