You pointed out that this group was rationalist-adjacent, but it’s instructive to observe whom exactly these murders were carried out against: a landlord, the parents of a group member, and a U.S. border patrol agent. Not typical rationalist enemies. But these are very standard anarchist scapegoats.

The point was the word “cult” to describe a loose discursive circle, which, for whatever their faults, have not yet started murdering their perceived enemies in cold blood, seems wildly off base, and their behavior stands in stark contrast to the activities of this genuine anarchist-identified cult.

Oh, the transgender vegan anarchist cult responsible for the series of murders? Riiiight, because those folks are totally up there with the mainstream rationalist names. Incredible that when an actual deadly cult forms, their true ideological kin can’t help but project and run interference for them.
