Except you would never (or never properly) have attribution in (commercial) LLM answers. (I agree on the matter, not on that specific argument).

Agreed. You could even say that citation tracking is a "recommendation" not from an algorithm but from authors.

Are recommendation services different from search and useful in themselves? I think it really depends on user's needs (expert vs. basic reco), their discipline/focus and their expectations (how many useless recommendations do I bear?).

Mmm, let's say I don't see why it would cost them "more resources" to put abstracts rather than not, and that "limited resources" is only the choice of their owner which makes around 1MM€ net profit a year. I will check other comments, thanks again for your work (incl. limitations à la ArXiv)

OpenAlex has many objects other than publications, ie figshare ppts and now datasets from Datacite. At Matilda, we wish to focus on textual objects. There is also the question of deduplication (we have around 250M texts, 155M post deduplication). We chose to associate AAM, preprints and VoR.
