I sincerely hope that future selections better reflect the true spirit of peace, justice, and self-determination, and that the Venezuelan people one day experience a genuinely democratic and peaceful future that arises from within their own nation.

While I respect the Norwegian Nobel Committee and the values the Peace Prize is meant to uphold, I can’t help but feel that this year’s choice seriously undermines their credibility.

To me, these are not the actions or beliefs of a peace activist, but of someone aligned with violent regime change and imperialist interests.

Machado has also backed or participated in previous coup attempts against the Venezuelan government (notably in 2002 and 2014), and has expressed support for privatizing key sectors of Venezuelan infrastructure, including access to drinking water.

She has expressed support for the war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu and Israel’s genocide in Gaza, even going so far as to call for Israel to ”liberate” Venezuela through military intervention.

She has repeatedly praised U.S. President Donald Trump and supported several of his hawkish, interventionist policies, including calls for regime change in Venezuela through violent or foreign-backed means.

That said… I do not believe María Corina Machado represents the best interests of Venezuelans, nor do I believe she embodies the spirit of peace implied by this year’s Nobel recognition.

First and foremost, I want to be clear: I do not support President Nicolás Maduro. His administration has inflicted genuine harm on Venezuelans through corruption, human rights abuses, and democratic backsliding.
