I’ve heard the rumor about the song being omitted from Medium Rarities due to a licensing freeze in the wake of Go, but I’d like to know if you have something beyond word-of-mouth. It’s definitely plausible, but any sort of confirmation would be great.

It’s honestly similar to the “Tallest Poppy” phenomenon seen in places like Australia. While some of the criticisms are valid, they seem to be given more weight than is merited.

2000 was the last Pokemon movie to be treated as a “Big Deal” until Detective Pikachu came around. That said, there are a number of takes that haven’t aged well from that time. I also get the feeling that there was some (conscious and unconscious) resentment towards the franchise from the media.

Fair warning: Many of these deficiencies will be reduced or eliminated as the systems improve. Also, if you’re a musician trying to find an audience, looking at what kinds of music are commonly generated should give you an idea what markets are underserved.

Japan didn’t really get to experience it until it got added to NSO Expansion Pack in 2022. It’s a bit surprising they went through all the effort to clear the music and such, but used the Japanese version of Panel De Pon on SNES to (presumably) not pay for the Tetris name.
