The cinder blocks for the upper terrace for the dahlia bed are now all in place, all 181 feet of it. Still so much work to do, but it's exciting to have at least the first phase completed.

Almost done with Phase 1 of the upper terrace project. 6 feet left to go. It's a nasty last bit, as it was a burn pit and it's full of trash, big rocks, and deep-rooted weeds in very hard soil. Softer now due to the rain, I really want to finish this tomorrow.

Down to just 14 cinder blocks to place! It's getting cold, and it's been wet the last few days. I think I will be done with the cinder blocks on Sunday, but Monday for sure.

Yesterday I was back at work de-rocking my upper terrace bed for the dahlias, and I am down to just 27 cinder blocks to place. I am not digging down as far as before as I approach the south end, so I am hoping to finish in the next week. Photo is Firesplash, a variegated single.

Still plugging away at the de-rocking of the terrace, but we went to Spokane today for a break and to get some items which aren't available in Omak. Also, got to shop at 2nd Look Books, a fabulous bookstore in Spokane. I did get ONE cinder block down when we got back home, though!

All of the dahlia clumps have been lifted for the season, and the work of dividing them has started. Work on the upper terrace is on hold until I get tubers in storage.
I had an assistant helping me with the dividing of the tubers.

I took a break from working on my upper terrace yesterday. I *did* divide a lot of dahlia clumps, though. Today I was back at it, and lifted 16 clumps along the upper terrace, and 19 clumps from the wood beds. 29 clumps left to lift!
I'll get back to working on the terrace soon.

I took a break from working on my upper terrace yesterday. I *did* divide a lot of dahlia clumps, though. Today I was back at it, and lifted 16 clumps along the upper terrace, and 19 clumps from the wood beds. 29 clumps left to lift!

More dahlia clumps lifted, and progress made on leveling out the upper and lower terraces. I pulled 12 clumps today, which doesn't sound like a lot, but I am lifting clumps and leveling as I go.
I have about 100 more clumps to lift, and will glad when I am done with that part of the work.

After they left, I cut down all the dahlias and I have removed most of the stakes. Today I will get out there and start lifting tubers, and keep working on my terracing project. I want to be able to get tubers planted as soon as it's safe to do so next year!

The dahlia bloom spectacle finally stopped early in the morning on October 15. We had a low temp of 24 degrees for a few hours, which was enough to wipe them out.
Now to lift and divide and dream about next year!

No new bloomers today. Just hoping we don't have a frost overnight!
I worked more on my terracing against next year's dahlia season. It's obviously not level, but it's reasonably straight and gives me an idea how it will look when it's done.

I discovered today that when AC Paint is a solid red instead of red and white variegated, it turns into AC David. So I have TWO of AC David, and none of AC Paint. The photo is my original AC David.
Next year I will have both AC David *and* AC Paint.

I don't know if this counts as a mislabel, but my 'AC Paint' is not painted. It's a solid red, instead. Fortunately, I have a friend who will supply me with a proper tuber of AC Paint next season. I need to figure out if AC Paint is a sport, and what the solid red is called.

But it's possible that Clearview Edie just didn't like being planted on all the trash which was directly below the tuber!
