Nickelodeon is just a portmanteau of Nickel (the coin) and an odeon being the Greek name for a small theatre. That’s because there used to be places back when nickels were worth more where you could watch a movie at an odeon for a nickel. That’s why plenty of movie theatres have odeon in the name.
