From a UK perspective The Guardian advocates being independent from corporate owners although bias to the left. I try and get a balance between left and right opinions with a glance at the Telegraph. The Independent does what is says on the tin. The latter two are pay to view.

Silence and apathy are the real enemies. So many people are switching off current affairs for their individual sanity but that just lets these monsters spin their webs…
