There's so much to praise here, the sumptuous period detail, Prieto's patient, careful lens, Leung's restraint and intensity. But it all comes back to her.

LUST, CAUTION (2007, dir. Ang Lee): there's an entire movie here in Tang Wei's close-ups. Her eyes burn a hole through the screen in every scene. It all comes back to her. One of the great film performances of the 21st century.
