medical power of attorney, specifically. this is usually covered in an advance directive. UPMC has a template advance directive that’s easy to work through.
I think there can be other types of power of attorney, like for finances. which might also be worth figuring out but less urgently

I understand being skeptical of nonprofits! But this is true mutual aid. They do things like giving their aid storehouse access badges to community members, so the people affected are the ones deciding how things will be distributed.

MADR has been showing up and doing the real work alongside people abandoned to die by their governments for many years. I trust anyone they partner with.

Sure, but these concerns are being used by some councilmembers to justify rushing to build a facility where the feds could train—and even if that weren’t true, cops are helping ICE kidnap people off the street! They’re no better. We need to put guardrails on what this land can be used for.

when I teach on this I ask my students to define “biology,” and this can start some interesting conversations! at this point, I think many of the citations people make are really to something I would describe more as “God’s intended path for you”

Oh yes, sorry for the confusion! I just see a lot of comments being like “lol how stupid, abortion isn’t about GENDER” and it’s like… I think we are maybe missing how deeply these freedoms are entangled. That’s dangerous because the fascists very much do understand this.

oh REALLY good summary! I would add: the badness of the bad guys is that they believe that these rights come to them from their bloodline, while the good guys understand that of course not, the right to be a slaveowner comes from individual merit!

Republicans believe that the bodyparts you are born with determine your social role, and for half of us that role includes both womanhood and motherhood. They think any woman who wants something different doesn’t *really* want it, she has just been brainwashed by feminist/gender “ideology.”

A woman who doesn’t want to give birth is a gender traitor in their minds. So saying you could be a woman and not be a mother is just as much “gender ideology” as saying you can change your gender.
