Man Utd, Essendon, Melbourne Storm, Melbourne Victory, Melbourne Stars - surely one of these can win a title again soon 😳
We could also help ourselves by playing people in their best positions. Martin on a wing is much more damaging to me. Flat kicks into fwd line rather than bombs from 50m away. Although even Martin’s kicking can be messy at times

😂 Cox was actually better than Cameron in their premiership year. Took great contested marks in the games I saw live (my wife a pies fan). He also turned a couple games when in ruck. Anyway, who cares as whatever happens, teams keep evolving and I still think theres a place for key fwds in the game

Understand where you’re coming from, but any fwd in reality would look poor in our set up, the way the ball has been entering our fwd line. Wright is a shadow since his shoulder and Langford had yips last yr. I think overall you’re probs right. But If ball movement doesn’t change we stuffed anyway

Pies played 2 genuine rucks in their premiership year in Cameron and Cox. So in effect had Mihocek and a resting ruck in fwd line along with Elliott, Hill, Gini and resting mid (degoey or daicos). Plus McStay played 14 games that year too as third tall.

So they had more talks than you think

They played Calsher Dear too. Their make up was 2 talls (Dear and Chol), one medium (Gunston) and 3 smalls (Gini, Wizard and Moore/Macdonald). Chol was back up ruck

Is personally prefer Ridley to be 3rd tall (as inteceptor) so a 2nd key back is needed. Reid may not be the answer - he’s made of cellophane. Also, we can’t depend on Caddy to win us finals, etc as a 20yo. Will take time and his kicking at goal needs work.

Potentially - but Shanahan still kicked 11 goals during those 3 games and Wright kicked 8. You could argue, Wright would’ve had all the attention and Shanahan slipped under radar - but hes 18 years old. Pretty impressive imo

And he played in same team as Wright, as an 18yo kid and outshone the more senior player. Anyway, fantasy is all it is now

Again, won’t matter as we won’t be able to get Shanahan anyway. But as I see it, our biggest deficiencies (outside pace) is a genuine key back (who can stay fit all year) and a genuine key forward. Kako fills the small forward need with hopefully better output from Gresham and perhaps Perkins up fwd

I don’t trust Wright or Jones. On paper look fine, but just don’t think the consistency for 23 rounds is there. Happy to be proven wrong

It will be pot luck with what is left by the time pick 40 odd comes around. I personally think Shanahan is exactly what we need to partner Caddy for the next 10 years. Wont matter - its very unlikely we get him anyway
November 19, 2024 at 10:09 AM
I know - fantasy stuff. Have to find a way to get Shanahan before Richmond get him

That pick (Melb pick 9) was outs that we traded to Melb initially. Wonder if there was a deal done we can get it back on draft night if Kako bid comes from saints at pick 7 or 8. Fantasy I know - but Shanahan will be a jet
November 19, 2024 at 9:28 AM
Just wonder if pick 28 and our Future 1st would be enough to get Melbourne’s 2nd pick (currently pick 9) - and get Shanahan. This is of course if Saints (as predicted now) bid on Kako at pick 8.

Unfortunately, we have heard all this before. Action speak louder than words. Enough talking Essendon!
November 16, 2024 at 8:18 AM
Tough fixture for us. Hard to see us move up from this year. I think anywhere from 10-14 is realistically where we will land in another development season for us unfortunately
November 14, 2024 at 12:55 PM
Sad way for his tenure to end. His legacy may be further tarnished as a result of this
November 13, 2024 at 10:22 AM
I actually don’t understand why the AFL do this every year - leak bits and pieces. Just release the full fixture all at once ffs!
November 13, 2024 at 7:34 AM
If you’re not an Essendon fan, you’re probably expecting us to flop on the big stage. To be honest, I can’t blame them considering the way we have finished off the last 2 years. Last year the AFL gave us more prime time games as we were sitting in top 4 - then lost 6 out of last 8!
