Puzzle Bobble is a great game (and one of the few puzzle games colorblind people can play). No bashing here.

Sorry for the misdirection. The timeline has been alive today with Punisher talk since they announced a Marvel Legends two-pack featuring the playable characters from the Capcom beat 'em up.

He'd be obsessed with the conspiracy behind those games not being skill related but instead having an operator setting that only allows wins out after taking in so much money.

Once you have a really good game it sinks its hooks into you. It started slow for me until I saw how fun it was to abuse Joker/Planet upgrade combinations to maximize your bonus.

Based on the sound I still think these would be the most likely culprits (if it's the monitor):

- flyback (can visually identify)
- blew a capacitor (usually can visually identify)
- shorted transistor (the bottle cap things on the metal chassis)
- spot killer (wouldn't explain sound though)
