Not every team can win every tournament - women’s football won’t get that far beyond the big nations if that’s what’s required. (been interesting to watch how defeat in the 2022 final seemingly did more for attention to Germany women than their 8 Euros wins, almost as if there is more to the story)

We are playing a repurposed defensive midfielder at centre back (Minge) who still tends to play in midfield for her club… couple of injuries too, notably Schulze Solano (co-produced with Spain). Hendrich who steadied the ship a bit tonight also isn’t getting any younger! Very thin on defenders.

Can you give any more insight into prep for the match? Interesting to hear Beth & Kim talk afterwards about the starting 11 playing against pretend-Barcelona and trying things that didn’t work before hitting on a winning formula; and Renee about using the two weeks before the match to her advantage.

I mean this one - the victors coming all the way from qualifiers, through a 5-2 defeat in the first group match, change of manager, epic comebacks in the quarter and semi finals, to beat a team labelled the best in the world who had en route demolished almost everyone in their path
