Just by looking at those old arches I can hear the slow clunking of an older tube train as it travels past them.

As a fellow high-grade glioma patient, I feel for Alex and his family. One of the hardest things about this disease is that, unlike some other cancers, medicine runs out of proven options very quickly. I wish them all the best.

That’s a great Max Frisch line.

Welcome to Brexit.

18.4 KW are currently being collected by the solar panels, with some going to the house and to the battery bank, and around half being sold back to the electric company. It’s a healthy setup.

Everybody was happy! They’re all just out of frame, laughing too.

This all annoys me no end, too. Human knowledge about how our brains work isn’t based on introspection, but if an LLM’s knowledge of how it works isn’t based on introspection, then it’s just guessing 🤷‍♂️

You wrote, “you can't get ‘insight’ into an LLM by asking it facts about itself or about its programming,” but I just asked an LLM for facts about itself, and it gave me a long reply with insight into its programming.

“The model core is built using Python + CUDA, with C++ for optimization. Supporting infrastructure involves shell, Rust, Go, and TypeScript.”

This isn’t true. It will tell you in which languages it was programmed if you ask it, plus other details 🤷‍♂️

A PBS documentary in 1981 made the same point, suggesting that all the expensive war planes would be quickly destroyed after the start of East-West hostilities in Europe.

Nvidia GPUs are better suited to raw mathematics than logic, so you may not be far wrong.

Very little, surely. We didn‘t want any Atomstrom in our Wohnhome. So now we‘re building an extension cord from Hamburg down to Munich.

For this particular set he was channelling Albert Speer, though 🙀

This is great news! I was diagnosed with anaplastic oligodendroglioma in Jan 2023. The tumour was deemed inoperable due to size and position. But after the combined radio- and chemotherapy, and a couple of months into my monthly higher-dose chemo, it had shrunk and was 100% resected in Dec 2023.

Also, electricity and the ICE aren’t quite the same thing: the former is a harnessing, the latter was an invention.

Installing an AI access code into a code editor designed for AI assisted coding (so you can chat with the LLM while it manipulates and generates most of the code) is quite incredible.

It’s not the sort of thing that one can be wrong about, though. I mean, adding bicarbonate of soda to the water first makes them even crispier when parboiling, yet there is also a school of thought that objects to this, too.
