Just goes to show that when multiple complex systems work together, the points where they may interact or share resources can cause friction and unforeseen issues, and I learned to check for such issues early in the troubleshooting process, if they may exist.

such as unloading the WiFi adapter, leaving it in a state that Linux couldn't find or use it.
This happened months after I'd first set up the system and thought I'd ironed out all of the issues in the setup, and went undetected for that entire time.

It turns out that Windows has a feature called Fast Startup enabled by default, that, instead of shutting down the computer fully, would put it into hibernation without doing certain things,
