my administrative weakness:

Starting an email
looking something up for that email
leaving that email as an open draft for two months
Finally remembering I never sent that email.

I'm learning, at least in my church, there is a big gap between the actual history of the church and the history that is said by those who are still there. These two different stories become a source of conflict because both can be used to leverage advantage for one's preference.

Another thread on another book about church revitalization.
I'm basically using Blue Sky to keep track of notes as I read, so consider all of these cliff notes, and if you want the details please by the book. This time it's "Autopsy of a Deceased Church" by Thom S. Rainer.

Okay what is the deal with Christians getting into "zone healing" and "Reiki"? This is not a vin diagram I ever thought I'd have to deal with.

It's fun seeing Dr. Collins argument about the New Covenant show up in Calvin's Commentary on Isaiah 42:6

Recently purchased several books on Church Revitalization. The first one I'm reading is Facing Snarls and Scowls by Brian Croft and James Carroll.

So far the argument is preaching is the most important part. However you should expect Hostility, apathy, and adversity.

1. The conventional explanation for food deserts—that these places are too poor or too rural to generate enough spending on groceries, or too Black to overcome racist corporate redlining — fail to grapple with a key fact: food deserts didn’t used to exist. My new piece in The Atlantic.
The Mystery of Food Deserts
They didn’t materialize around the country for no reason. Something happened.

Since we are all cool with advent now, when are we going to start celebrating the twelve days of Christmas.

To those who have revitalized a church, how important was reforming the worship to accomplishing it?

Is a thanksgiving day service limited to the American dutch reformed?

I grew up SBC and then went PCA and haven't ever been to one, but it's normal in my in-laws dutch reformed church.

My girls and I were just chatting about how there’s not much cleaning to do to prep for Thanksgiving. We divided up the chores, and reflected on how it’s much easier to clean the house than it used to be.

The next time someone tells me the church is not responsible for social justice, I’m simply going to suggest they do some reading on deacons.

Something my grandma always told me was it's easier for someone to believe a lie they've heard 100 times than a truth they have heard once.

It's also easier to believe a lie you want to be true; a lie that you profit from, or a lie that comforts you from reality.

Sometimes I think having a morning and evening service would be nice. Id get to preach through way more of the Bible that way. Then #holyweek hits.

Preaching through Matthew right now, And what keeps hitting me in the face over and over again is that Jesus went through all these things intentionally for the sake of our salvation.
