I had a cat with cancer. He hated taking the meds. One day I said to myself, I’m torturing this animal. It was more important to take care of him - to stop hurting him, than for me to avoid emotional pain. I had a service come to the house to avoid a car ride, and I cried for days.

My younger brother used to make me tapes that I would play (on my Walkman!) when jogging. I was living in LA at the time and he was in Seattle. It was his way of staying in touch.
