"To be unaware, to be Out of the Loop, is allied in the tribal consciousness with impotence, inability, imbecility ... and ultimately with the fatal affliction of ridiculousness. But there is also, in success, in wide awareness, a danger just as mortal..."

Perhaps these people could chose some of their number to lead in the negotiations, to “represent” them if you will. And then they could establish rules to negotiate the prices with insurers. If only there was some mechanism that could represent the collective will of a group.
Rand Paul: "I have a plan that says everybody in this marketplace -- it's only about 4% -- everybody in this marketplace should be able to go to Amazon or Costco or Sam's Club and as a group, a large group, millions of people, negotiate with big insurance to bring prices down."

This guy, what a guy.
It’s the “season of love and giving”…but this year, doesn’t it seem more like a “season of fear and taking”? Like many of you, I’ve been saddened by the human impact of draconian government budget cuts and how angry many housed Americans are at unhoused Americans.

You know you’re in the PNW (even Inland) when it’s a rainy day and there’s not a raincoat or umbrella in sight.

Movie you’ve watched more than six times with a gif. Hard mode:no Stars (Warner Trek), LotR, Marvel, Disney Animated or Pixar.

This is my most vivid memory of Washington DC.
taking hanania seriously is literally like taking the black hebrew israelites who loiter outside of chinatown station seriously. same level of sense and intellectual coherence.

Any podcast that can start an episode with Frank Valli and Frank Sinatra meeting in a bar and end with Led Zeppelin II or trace the connection between CCR and end with the Peter Jackson LotR movies is A+. Heartily recommend.

This is why I haven’t watched South Park in literally decades.
It's the South Park effect. That show taught a generation that caring about anything in either direction is dumb and something to be attacked.
It feels like this is becoming a more common mass shooter profile: Someone who's interested in politics but not as a vehicle to express clear values or a coherent viewpoint. He just wants to mock anyone who takes it seriously.

Hard agree.
Ezra Klein is trying in this column to argue that Kirk was doing politics correctly if you just ignore the content of what he was advocating. That he was contributing to American democracy by arguing civilly for the subjugation of women, gay people, trans people. It simply doesn’t work.
I feel like I am taking crazy pills. Charlie Kirk’s ultimate goal, which he said time and time again, would have been the suppression, through threat of violence and the use of state power, of the rights of those he disagreed with, including freedom of expression.

Pippin gets on a palantír for like three seconds and immediately needs an intervention
The movies don't really get into it, but it's worth remembering that Denethor went crazy because he spent too much time doomscrolling on the Palantír and it cooked his brain

The TOS Star Trek movies had the best uniform in the franchise, and Enterprise had the second best.
