If I remember correctly, they were *way* more dangerous to use too. Like "oops there goes your fingers" dangerous and they weren't getting paid more. Or "we need to clean out the scraps to keep it from jamming, let's send children under to clean the orphan crusher. No we're not turning it off."

Sort of? There are Generic Tickets that you can buy, and Event Tickets for a specific… well, event. You can use generics ad-hoc when you show up at an event to pay for it, but it’s not guaranteed you get in since people who have The Actual Ticket have priority if seating is limited.
