In the past we only had catenary. In the present USA can choose between catenary and battery. So it's a cost issue: How many trains do you have, and how many miles, and what does the battery wear cost per mile?

1) Gulf Stream is driven by salinity, doesn't transport heat (= wrong simplification in "literature").
2) Ice age was a drop of _global_ temperature, whereas an AMOC shutdown will cause a _local_ drop of temperature, global temperature stays constant, meaning elsewhere it will get the hotter.
