Here for a good time, not a BQ time. Current Chicagoan.
Pinned
I'm making my Bluesky personality "too slow to qualify for Boston."

I enjoy running. I'm aggressively mediocre at it. I know my natural talent won't get me a BQ time nor (probably?) will my usual 30 miles a week.

But not every marathoner needs to be trying to BQ, right?
Time for treats.

For the hardcore Chicago Marathon spectators out there tomorrow (not me, I have small children): remember, fueling is about time on feet and not distance covered.

I didn't get into the Boston Marathon.

To be fair, I also didn't qualify for the Boston Marathon.

Happy Boston Marathon application day for everyone faster than me!

The cruel math of this is a 6:38 pace marathon is 2:54, which is a safe Boston qualifying time for my age group. I felt like I was flying at this 5k.

I had a moonshot goal to BQ before I turn 40. This 5k makes me realize that's going to be nearly impossible.
Dim Sum And Then Some 5k

(The and then some was an extra .1 apparently)

Feel like I learned a bit from this. Not intimidated by the speed, but need to figure out pacing a little more. Gotta hold my form together in the last mile.

Racing my first 5k in a while tomorrow. I intended to better document my Breaking 20 quest, but the newborn took some priority.

I think I'd feel more confident if I'd had another month of intentional training, but weather will be perfect to rip a fast one. So we'll see?

Leaving this here for when my coach asks me how this week has been going.

I don't know who needs to hear this but lane 8 is usually where the shade is.

(It's me, I need to hear that)

Sitting in my bathtub eating an Outshine bar after my long run. It's now summer.

The temp right after I finished 6 and came inside this morning. I want winter back.

Seems like Strava is down so I want everyone to know I did a Lunch Run.

This is my lunch. Not part of my run.

Today's my birthday. Last year I never would have guessed I'd have 2 marathon finishes by today. It's truly a debilitating condition.

Happy with the hustle here. A little off the sub 3:25 I was looking for, but I can't complain.

Marathon #2 in the morning. Great build, awesome weather forecast, huge carb load. Let's rip.
May 4, 2025 at 2:58 AM
If you could qualify for Boston just by how well you carb load, I'd be a perennial lock.

Also I paid $15 to have my packet shipped to me, my bib wasn't in the mailer and then the race organizer gaslit me by suggesting I accidentally threw my bib away.

Really classy, All Community Events.

End of taper week #2. As you can see, this wasn't a perfect marathon build, but I still feel stronger and more confident than I did last fall before Chicago. Onto race week!
April 28, 2025 at 1:06 AM
My bib was left out of the race packet mailed to me today. Is this an omen for next Sunday?

Taper week #1. Missed a few miles today because of rain and Easter plans, but overall still feeling great. 2 weeks out.
April 21, 2025 at 2:37 AM
Happy Easter! Don't be like Peter and get out kicked at the end.
April 20, 2025 at 4:31 PM
Not an ideal peak week, but I knew it'd be tough with unfortunately timed travel. Still, the barn is full of hay and it's time to taper.
