The former Führerbau, Hitler's administrative building in Munich, housed more than 1000 paintings, mostly Old Masters, for Hitler's delusional Linz museum. They were all stolen on the eve of US troops' arrival in late April 1945. Only 25 per cent have been found. The largest art theft in Munich.

The infamous "Martyrs' Room" at the wartime Jeu de Paume museum in Paris while under German occupation. Some of these works were allegedly sacrificed in a day-long bonfire in July 1943 in the central courtyard of the Louvre. The Dali painting in the foreground survived. What about the others?

Bruno Lohse, Nazi war criminal, trained art historian, ladies' man, coordinated the looting of Jewish-owned art collections in wartime France from which he profited immensely.. Metropolitan Museum officials courted him in the 50s and 60s. Birds of a feather always flock together.
