So interesting! I've noticed that pollinators in my garden focus on the plants-of-the-moment that are in full sun. Have you been able to check both verbenas during the sun-shifts of the day?

Adorable. And nice succession plan - looks like the CA fuchsia is on deck!

Gah, that would be distressing! I checked the most recent distribution map I could find, and it looks like you're outside the bounds, so you might want to report it if you haven't already . Here are a couple of links.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear this, but thank you for sharing. What part of the state are you in, and what were the symptoms that tipped you off?

Could you be looking at 2 plants growing together and mingling? Blackberry leaf edges are more jagged. As for what's shown in the photo, if the stems are square, then it's something in the mint family. Maybe it's a Nepeta (catmint). Let us know if you are able to find an identification!

Gah! So pretty.

You can confirm lemon balm by pinching a leaf and smelling it for that bright, lemony freshness. It's definitely not baby blackberry brambles. (I've battled enough of those to know for sure.)

Me too! My theory is: All of the locally native seeds are already out there, in the soil seedbank and also continually being deposited by traveling birds/squirrels/etc. So once the humans shift away from caring for and protecting the imported plants, then the naturally native plants have a chance.
