It is a big gamble that the pesos being bought can be sold at a profit in the future. They could very well end up being worthless to taxpayers, but traders with corrupt knowledge make money when currencies move in either direction.

The 20 billion is committed . So far Argentina has tapped about 1.5 billion to buy pesos. If the pesos went up, perhaps Bessent’s cronies made a trading profit, but to claim the US taxpayers made a profit on a position that has not been unwound is asinine.

Next he was very fuzzy about the funds, who controls them, and the current status, even claiming the US has already turned a profit and he was unchallenged on Morning (Mourning) Joe.
