A study conducted by M. Ortiz Rios et al. at Newcastle University, layer-targeted optogenetic stimulation was combined with functional magnetic resonance imaging to explore the local & distal effects of optogenetic stimulation in the primary visual cortex of non-human primates
The authors introduce a T-maze apparatus designed for pigs to assess spatial working memory capacities. Results show that pigs quickly learned the task and performed above chance levels, indicating its potential as a tool for studying neurological and psychiatric diseases in pigs.
A publication from @AllenNeuroLab et al., at @FIU discusses the underutilization of pigs in behavioral neuroscience despite their potential as a translational model. Pigs offer advantages such as similarities to humans in brain anatomy and physiology. bit.ly/4bDP3NB
