M42 is such a good system for obscure, cheap lenses that kick ass.
I use this Lentar 28mm as the main lens for my AE-1, and it's super wide, yet sharp

It definitely has some pros and cons, since it only goes up to a 1/500 shutter speed, and meters for up to 400 iso film.
But with 72 photos per roll, it's great for experimenting with how you shoot, and trying out more expensive film stocks than you would normally.

It's a downright gorgeous camera.
