Seems false. In LA, if everyone accepted just "having less stuff", had a partner who didn't work, per MIT each and every person would need to make at least $36.47 for simple "subsistence", or no money for "savings, leisure expenditures, emergency expenses, or other". livingwage.mit.edu/metros/31080

Politics/policy still can and do "combine" in certain areas though such as minimum wage... see also Sheinbaum's *overwhelming* victory in Mexico after AMLO tripled the minimum wage...
