Indeed, it is an almost fetishistic individualism that serves as the misanthropes intellectual and spiritual foundation, second only to their exceedingly narrow view of history and human nature.

There may be no more famous example of a left-leaning misanthrope than George Carlin, who couched his harsh view of humanity in an idealistic individualism. Carlin "loved individuals", but "disliked and despised groups of people".
