A person ascribing pronouns to me tells me the context they view me in, which is helpful for my end of the conversation. Even someone dodging pronouns all together tells me something. As these are usually unintentional revelations I do need to be aware that they may not feel like a choice though.

I feel like it's the inverse of when someone tells me their neopronouns. I clock that a person giving me their neos is conveying essential information about who they are to help me understand them better, and they feel I am safe enough to tell.

Also, when people actually adapt their pronoun choices to align with (or cut against) my presentation choices, I get to know how much thought was spent on that tiny detail. It helps, like an early warning system for finding surprisingly safe people and flushing out abusers.

You also get some solid info about the person making the choice - it's pretty easy to pick up on international misgendering, and which gender they choose for the insult tells you something about their preconceptions of gender. Those attempting to lift you up with their choice reveal similar info.

I know that publicly acknowledging acceptance of any pronouns can feel like an open invitation for people to try and misgender you without being caught, but as people choose pronouns to use they give you important feedback on how you appear to others that I haven't found another way to get.
