the high level players who dont want to play with lower level players wouldnt play in open level 8s anyways if there was no skill tiering so i dont think having it as an option changes things.

i dont think it really locks high level out of doing so. they can if they want to. and i think having spaces where they can choose not to is fine. some people make it their goal to help others and some people make it their goal to push themselves. both are valid i feel.

from what i can tell a lot of the lower tiered players have been able to get a lot of practice just from open level 8s which the server does also provide for those wishing to not deal with tiers.

thought this was what t5 originally was? i agree with the t4-5 merger they did but moreso because yes, the skill gap isnt that big and it felt like an unnecessary division of what was already going to be the smallest playerbase there.

if lower level players want to FORCE people to look at them, there are outside means to do so. this is why we have open level events to begin with. and there are enough nice people in high tiers to where i think they wont be entirely ignored if they try to put themselves out there.

i think that the lower level players need to prove themselves, but i think the responsibility should be on higher level players to take chances on people, and it should be okay for them to want to play with people definitively on their level.

i think it's important to separate this failure from other systems just trying to create balanced environments. while i dont think it's always handled very well by staff, i dont think the concept should be demonized just because it shares some elements with + and + bad and stinky.

i think the reason + fails is because it's essentially a full subjective system. the alternative method through sendouq is not only a worse option to get in, but also players who use this method are discriminated against and have to survive voting periods going forward.

i dont think throwing everyone into one pool helps anyone and is more likely to lead to aversion to practice from those above, which defeats the purpose of an untiered system to begin with.

and there is the option to do this if higher level players wish to take chances and support those below who they think have the potential. i think the onus should be on them and not the other way around, as long as there is a reasonable method to go up in tiers without full subjective judgement.

the overlap between ppl who make it to the top and ppl who complain about voting, tiering, and "the system" is *very* small
if you measure the skill of the scene by the average, you can try to "fix" the systems
but if you measure by the volume of top level players, it doesn't really matter
