Talking to people really puts into context how far removed a lot of people are from the food we consume

My coworkers genuinely had no idea that animals like cows and goats needed to have babies in order to produce milk

Is it spring yet? In today's post, I ramble through all the different things I'm planting this year (and all the things I've failed to grow in the past...)
What I’m Planting in 2025
This is the longest January ever. While they always feel long, this one is especially dragging on due to unusually cold weather, gloomy days, and my final semester of library school starting. Most notably, January has felt long because I haven't been able to get outside and get my garden prepped for the spring, and the few things I do already have planted out there are clinging on for dear life (I had to get frost blankets for the first time!).

New blog post just published! I spent some time testing out different gluten free sourdough starters to find which one worked the best for me.
Testing Different Gluten Free Sourdough Starters
A Little Background on Why I Did This Experiment I started baking bread in college (so about 8-10 years ago now). For whatever reason, although I do not have a talent for baking in general, I am pretty good at making bread. Naturally, I eventually got sucked in to the world of sourdough. For the longest time, I was intimidated by the idea of sourdough, and I wasn't the biggest fan of the sourdough bread you can buy at the grocery store.

so you know how in stardew valley the food is all pescatarian even though you have farm animals?

where are my fellow homestead-y people like that?? because I keep getting jumpscared by people posting about processing chickens/rabbits and I’m just…not really about that but I’m looking for community

I’m looking to put together a recipe book (for personal use) with recipes using seasonal produce.

Please drop your favorite recipes with things in season in winter/January!
