What triggers plants to start growing thicker (radial growth)?
We discovered that a transient cytokinin response maximum acts as a switch to initiate this process in roots.
So proud to share the work I started as an undergrad, now in Nature Plants! 🧵👇

A cytokinin response maximum induces and activates bifacial stem cells for radial growth - Nature Plants
This study details how plants initiate radial growth, during which a transient cytokinin response maximum transforms dormant procambial cells into bifacial stem cells, offering a basis for post-embryo...

SPL13 controls a root apical meristem phase change by triggering oriented cell divisions
Oriented cell divisions are crucial for determining the overall morphology and size of plants, but what controls the onset and duration of this process remains largely unknown. Here, we identified a s...

Finally out! We identified the stem cell factors (CAILs) of the vascular cambium, and a mechanism involving a ligand sequestration to position the stem cells. This work is a result of fruitful collaboration with @peteretchells.bsky.social and Tusscher labs. 🧵 1/x

Identification of cambium stem cell factors and their positioning mechanism
Wood constitutes the largest reservoir of terrestrial biomass. Composed of xylem, it arises from one side of the vascular cambium, a bifacial stem cell niche that also produces phloem on the opposing ...
