More on Bratton's ill defined concept of computation - there are a ton of better concepts to choose from but his fits perfectly with the tech right agenda. The talk about "planetary computation" is greenwashing environmental annihilation - similar to the concept of "complexity" veiling reductionism

When art and "theory" mystifies instead of revealing the process of social production, it is doing the work of reproducing #capitalism. No wonder it's funded! This happens a lot in science art and especially with #AI. Prime example of this mess: the #antikythera project: research.antikythera.org

Of course, modelling (more is different) and not "exact simulation" is the paradigm. However just accurate simulation of neurons or the nematode worm as a complex system, shows the difficulties for those wanting unified/exhaustive models of complexity. Especially cognition (see earlier posts).

It takes 10 hours on a laptop accurately simulating 5 seconds of a worm wiggling: archive.is/0j2Jp (and we still cannot simulate more than 20-30 #quantum particles exactly). Please be humble when the universe is present! #modelling #complexity
