(4/4)🛰️ Diverse tectonic #activity is revealed at 52 Venus coronae based on topography and gravity; the VERITAS mission may uncover hundreds more:

(3/4) 🌋 Our new Venus coronae #database, open to all, includes 740 structures — the most ever catalogued — and identifies several morphological subsets:

(2/4) 🚀 The #first 3D geodynamic models of Venus rift tectonics reveal 5 modes of rifting. Venus' rifts may be active and shaped by evolving or laterally variable lithospheric and crustal properties:

Previously published #Venus coronae databases, however, remain inaccessible to the public and/or incomplete -- our new database uses clear ID criteria to define 740 (!!) corona features on Venus, which is much higher than ever reported!

"#Coronae" are defined by a (partial) quasi-circular ring of closely spaced concentric fractures. They are hugely abundant on #Venus' surface and considered key for Venus' tectonic and volcanic history ⚒️🌋

I am so grateful for my #postdoc time at NASA JPL and Caltech! Thank you to everyone who made my stay so worthwhile -especially my advisors Sue Smrekar and Mike Gurnis: it was (and still is) such a pleasure to collaborate and have you as role models 🌋🚀✨🧪🔭

Yesterday we went to the Kentucky Science Center to help kids learn about all the planets (especially Venus) and create a "postcard from Venus" - it was great fun! #outreach 🛠️ 🛰️ 🔭 🌋 🎨 🧪

Re-introducing:

Hi all, I'm Anna - an #Earth ⚒️ and #Planetary 🪐 scientist working on the interior dynamics rocky planets🌋, and active in #scicomm 🧪

Currently at NASA JPL/Caltech; soon back in Europe for a new position (stay tuned..)

Part of NASA/ESA #VERITAS & #EnVision space missions 🚀 🔭

⚒️ There are many reasons for wishing to be at #EGU24 in Vienna last week, but the biggest must be the award ceremony for my mentor Taras Gerya @eth-erdw.bsky.social
(ETH Zurich 🧪) , who was awarded the August Love Medal from the Geodynamics Division @eurogeosciences.bsky.social 🔭 Congrats Taras!

Super excited to be in New Orleans for the VERITAS mission team meeting 🚀🌋✨VERITAS will answer key questions related to Earth’s and Venus’ different evolutionary paths - which is crucial for our understanding of rocky planets, including Earth 🌍 . Let’s go to Venus! ⚒️ 🔭 🧪 🪐

3D tectono-magmatic models of plume-margin interactions on Venus reveal
- several tectonic evolution scenarios, highly dependent on lateral variation in lithosphere strength
- longer magmatic lifetimes for asymmetric coronae (vs symmetric)

We characterize the topographic radial (a)symmetry of the 155 largest coronae on Venus and their regional setting. Many coronae are very complex and situated at so-called 'topographic margins' 🌋🛰️
