In regards to rumors that the peasants in Dark Souls 2 can drop the Pickaxe; this is false. What they carry is not a pickaxe. It's more like a warpick. This image from the DS Wiki-Fandom shows that only one end of the weapon is sharp, while the other is flat. The pickaxe has no flat end.
