You would not catch me dead willingly visiting the States for at least 4 years. You’d have to kidnap me. And I’m a white Anglo Celt male from no noticeable minority. If I think that then why would anyone who sounds a little foreign, Hispanic, has a tan, or a tattoo etc ever think of going?

I am sure your question is rhetorical. Wish they’d sat him next to Zelensky. Or told him the way to the airport.

Slightly at a tangent but the word description (alt text) to the times image says that’s the White House. It is not.

A major war in Europe is getting closer with every step of the USA administration. This is a small betrayal compared with what is to come. By ‘standing aside’ the USA are entirely complicit in what is to come. The free world is dying one betrayal at a time.

Bearing in mind how badly Labour did in 2021 the doomsayers may be in for a surprise!

Unfortunately at the moment no-one can offer a poverty free strategy. All that can be achieved is mitigation. Depressing.

In literal rather than visual concepts it’s the difference between simplistic approaches and one that work with the warp and weft of the full reality

You don’t think visually

Painting a picture of a future way forward for society that is believable requires an approach that can develop light and shade, fade and dodge colours and shapes, show depth as well as surface. Painting by numbers is dealing only in simplistic regimented shapes and colours. I think graphically.

so you can take it that Starmer is someone I have time for and generally support.

I will always take the mick out of pomposity, grandstanding and ego tripping. There’s plenty of that to go at. My values are fairly left but with a practical slant. I get irritated when politicians do not own issues and consequences, and talk about goals or aspirations with no… 🧵

Fair challenge. I have worked with politicians of all parties for decades and whilst I may have loyalties to some, my political practice is about practical solutions rather than polemic. Happy to credit when the right approach in my view is taken even if I would never vote for them. 🧵

Do I have to have a stall?

I would do exactly what has been done which is to discuss matters through normal channels and respond to their requests rationally.

I am very much against grandstanding, imperialism and a painting-by-numbers approach to politics.

Equal to Germany, France, Italy? There is some unreality there.

The point is an invite from Starmer is an offer that cannot be refused. I am sure if it is mutually agreed to talk or meet then that will happen. Davey needs to stop telling other sovereign nations how to behave as it disrespects them

Like an invitation to the headmaster’s study. Do you think they’d feel they have the option to say no?

Officials from the islands and from HMG are liaising. If there is a joint decision to meet then that’s all fine. But not a summons.
April 5, 2025 at 12:26 PM
No what he wants is the old imperial power leader to summon the colony leader to meet to discuss how to respond. For the avoidance of doubt, the islanders have self determination and should decide how to respond and if they want to talk to Starmer about it.

Mind you the PC leader made a complete prat of himself so that’s good news for you as LD may get some more of the protest vote. The Tory was only saved by also having Cameron’s sister in law on. Chris Bryant was on form.

They’re getting ready for the big push. As soon as Trump has weakened UA enough they will try to do again what they tried at the outset.
