@dustinmulvaney.bsky.social Nice shot, such a cool phenomena. I discussed this a little w/ CA SP expert Tim Hyland who estimated it'll take 10-20yrs for Big Basin to reestablish its canopy. Until then, 'fire following' species are gonna have a ball!

A ribbon cutting for the famous bicycle and pedestrian "whale bridge" overcrossing at Chanticleer Avenue in Santa Cruz has been set for 5:30pm, May 14.
The marine-themed bridge has been slowly coming together since 2023.

As of about 11:30am Tuesday, NOAA forecast for SLV River at Big Trees has it hitting 13.2 ft around noon Thursday.
That's less than a foot from the 14-foot "action" stage where mitigation measures might be required.
The river hit 13.8 feet last Tuesday during the storm.

As the atmospheric river encore draws closer, Santa Cruz County included within a flood watch issued ~30 mins ago by the National Weather Service. The flood advisory lasts from Wednesday night to Saturday night.
