I spent the day inside my hide in the river Sieg to in hopes of photographing the resident Kingfishers. After ~2 hours of waiting, they showed up. One male and one female :)

It's always a good day for posting a forward-facing raptor.

First #bird photo of 2025: a Long-tailed #Tit!

I was in the kitchen making hot chocolate when, out of nowhere, a flock of these little fluffballs landed on the branches right in front of me. Dropped everything, grabbed my camera, and rushed outside. Totally worth it!

A female Garden Sunbird. Just like Hummingbirds, Sunbirds have long, thin and tubular tounges that helps in sucking up nectar from flowers they visit. Although they mostly perch while feeding, they can also hover, a perfect example of convergent evolution.

Last summer, a rare visitor arrived in Germany: a Northern Mockingbird was spotted near #Köln — the first time it’s ever been recorded here. It was amazing to see, but also a bit sad as it sang alone, with no other mockingbird to answer. #Germany #birdwatching #nature
